Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH

Description

Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH is Europe’s largest R&D center for virtual vehicle technology with more than 300 employees. Research priority is the linking of numerical simulations and hardware testing, which leads to a powerful HW-SW whole system design and automation of testing and validation procedures. Following this focus on industry-related research, VIRTUAL VEHICLE is the innovation catalyst for future vehicle technologies.

The international partner network consists of around 100 national and international industrial partners (OEMs, Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, software providers) including over 40 national and international scientific institutions. Virtual Vehicle is the largest COMET-funded research center and is active in 40+ EU projects.

Role and Key Contribution to the Project

Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH serves as the Project Coordinator, overseeing the overall project structure, management, and communication to ensure smooth collaboration and successful execution. This role includes managing timelines, facilitating coordination between project partners, and maintaining transparent communication to address challenges effectively. As the leader of WP1, ViF drives project management, quality assurance, and risk management, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results and proactive mitigation of potential risks.

In WP3, ViF contributes to enhancing environment perception and decision-making systems, focusing on developing advanced perception systems critical for automated driving technologies. Building on this, ViF leads efforts in WP4 to create extended Operational Design Domains (ODD), enabling automated driving solutions in GNSS-denied environments, such as tunnels and road work zones. These developments are further adapted and integrated into real-world pilot sites in WP6, where ViF ensures the solutions meet practical application requirements and performance expectations.

Additionally, ViF plays a pivotal role in WP7, contributing to the dissemination, exploitation, and standardisation of the project’s results. This includes ensuring the alignment of project results with industry standards and promoting the adoption of the developed technologies to maximise impact and long-term value. Together, these responsibilities underscore ViF’s comprehensive involvement in advancing innovative, practical, and effective automated driving solutions.
