Role and Key Contribution to the Project
CEA’s role in iEXODDUS will be to extend the Operational Design Domains (ODD) to either places where GNSS is unavailable (tunnels) or of lower quality (urban canyons). High precision vehicle location is a vital requirement for autonomous driving and to ensure this, despite absent/dysfunctional GNSS, we will equip tunnels/urban canyons with Ultra-Wide-Band (UWB) tags and combine the information collected from these tags with that provided by on-board sensors measurements, such as inertial measurements. As part of this, we will develop a Proof-of-Concept to validate the proposed methodology and demonstrate its efficacy in real-world conditions.
